Nico Williams’ performances at the UEFA EURO 2024 have made him FC Barcelona’s top transfer target this summer. The Catalans had a midfield pivot at the top of their priority list for this transfer window, but Nico’s performance in the international competition has forced them to make him their number one target.
The Barcelona President has also stated that his club has the funds to sign the Athletic Club winger this summer, despite widespread fears about the Catalan club’s financial situation. According to reports, he is Hansi Flick’s top candidate for strengthening his team’s left wing.

The player’s €58 million release clause also makes him a reasonable target for the Catalans, since a winger of his caliber would cost substantially more in the present market.
However, according to SPORT, Barcelona is not the only club following the winger this summer; three other major European clubs, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Liverpool, are also interested in the Spanish player.
None of these clubs have made an offer for Nico, as they are all aware that Athletic Club will only refer to the player’s release clause if they want him, but their bigger financial resources can pose a strong challenge to FC Barcelona.
However, Barcelona has the benefit of Nico Williams’ desire to play for them if he departs Athletic Club, especially as the 21-year-old Spaniard has an excellent relationship with numerous Blaugrana players, including Lamine Yamal, Ferran Torres, Pedri, Fermin Lopez, Balde, and Cubarsi.
However, the Catalans would still need to do a lot of effort if they want to recruit the Spaniard. To begin with, they must adhere to the 1:1 rule in order to carry out this operation within their FFP restrictions.
