Nigerian starlet Asuquo dreams Manchester United move

Murton Rovers’ flying winger Etim Asuquo has detailed his career progression, stating his preference for a move to English Premier League giants Manchester United after he would have helped Nigeria to claim a first world title at U-20 level.

Asuquo, who had an outstanding campaign with his Swansea Senior League side in the close season in which he scored 11 goals in just 16 appearances with 7 assists to his name, declared his love for the Red Devils albeit he admitted it would be tough and challenging to pull on the famous red shirt of the Mancunians.

“I know it seems a tall order (to think of playing for United) but its something I want to see happen sometimes in my career but that would be after I’ve helped the Flying Eagles win the U-20 World Cup”, the youngster said.

Making the U-20 World Cup, currently preparing for the World Youth Championships qualification series, is Asuquo’s primary target, the plank on which other career ambitions rest.

He said: “Honestly, my first ambition is to make the Flying Eagles team because I’m convinced I can bring my own skills set to help the team. My pace and dribbles, vision to make vital passes, ability to use both legs and the intuition to be at the right place at the right time to make vital assists as well as scoring my own fair share of goals is difficult to overlook. All I need is just the chance to showcase my talent.”

The Chemical Engineering undergraduate, who also adores Paris Saint Germain’s Angel Di Maria was a previous winner of the Manager’s player of the year award and also in the running for the same award this season at a ceremony slated for next week.

The Flying Eagles, under the tutelage of coach Emmanuel Amuneke, are currently preparing for the qualifying games of the African Youth Championship to be hosted by Zambia and which will serve as a qualifying tournament for the World Cup proper later in the year in South Korea.

Nigeria, defending champions of the AYC, are away to Burundi this weekend in the first leg, second round fixture on the road to Zambia 2017. The second leg comes up in June.
