Man City Eye Italy Goalkeeper As ‘A Better Replacement’ For Ederson

Pep Guardiola views Gigio Donnarumma, the captain of the Azzurri, as a possible successor for Ederson, and few media sources in Italy have confirmed that Manchester City is interested in the Italy international.

According to Football Italia, Manchester City is considering signing Italian goalkeeper Donnarumma.

Donnarumma is reportedly tempted to sign with Manchester City.

His current contract with Paris expires in June 2026, but negotiations for a new one are at a standstill.

In addition, the Ligue 1 powerhouses have added Matvei Safonov as a goalkeeper, who might challenge Gigio for a starting position in 2024–2025.

Donarumma is one of the goalkeepers Pep Guardiola has identified as a possible replacement for Ederson, who may transfer to the Saudi Pro League this summer.

With PSG, Italy’s captain Donnarumma made 113 games and gave up 112 goals.

In the summer of 2021, he left Milan on a free transfer to join the Ligue 1 powerhouses.

Donnarumma made his Serie A debut in 2015, making history as the second-youngest goalkeeper to do so.

He quickly established himself in the starting lineup and gained recognition as maybe the most promising young goalkeeper in the world at the time.

After an eight-year break, Donnarumma helped Milan return to the UEFA Champions League in 2021 by helping them finish second in the 2020–21 Serie A.

In addition, he was awarded the Yashin Trophy, IFFHS World’s Best Goalkeeper, and Serie A’s Best Goalkeeper of the Year.

In June 2021, Donnarumma left Milan after six years to sign a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1.
