Chelsea Eye Eighth Summer Signing As Talks With Arsenal Target Begin

Chelsea have reportedly opened talks with Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen as the Blues hope to prise the youngster to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Premier League clubs have been interested in signing Jorgensen, with Arsenal reportedly expressing interest in bringing him to north London.

Chelsea had a disastrous campaign last season in which they let in an astounding 63 goals in the Premier League.

And since replacing Mauricio Pochettino as manager, Enzo Maresca seems to be searching for a new shot-stopper.

Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic are presently competing for the starting spot at Stamford Bridge for Maresca. While Kepa Arrizabalaga, a 13-time Spain international, is anticipated to depart this summer after spending the previous campaign on loan with Real Madrid.

Additionally, Daily Express reports that the west London giants have made a preliminary move for Jorgensen, who joined Villarreal’s academy from Mallorca and has been at the club for the past seven years.

Early negotiations are underway with Jorgensen, 22, who is rumored to be eager to join the Premier League club.

At the age of 19, Jorgensen made his Villarreal debut in December 2021 as a substitute in a 7-1 Spanish Cup triumph over Sanluqueno.

In La Liga last season, he made 44 appearances for the team and was their first-choice goalie. Despite conceding 63 goals in 36 games, his team finished eighth in the standings.
