Forgive And Forget? Maresca Insists There Is No Split In  Chelsea Team Over  Racist Fernandez Video

Despite the racist controversy surrounding the Argentine midfielder, new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca thinks there will be no problems when Enzo Fernandez joins the squad on Monday for their pre-season tour of the United States.

Wesley Fofana, a Chelsea teammate, accused Fernandez (left) of “uninhibited racism” when he posted a video of Argentina players singing a racist and homophobic song targeting French players of African ancestry following Argentina’s Copa America victory.

Chelsea has several French players, and the incident threatens to splinter the squad, but Maresca has backed Fernandez and is convinced there will be no division. According To  Insiderwold football.

Fernandez has apologised publicly and individually to his team-mates, while Chelsea are now investigating “an internal disciplinary procedure” while FIFA are also looking into he issue.

In his first press conference as Chelsea manager, Maresca stated: “At the end of the day, they are all human beings.” None of them have evil intentions.

“I don’t think we’ll have any issues until Enzo returns. The player and club have clarified the matter. It’s excellent that the athlete made the statement of apology. The club did the same thing. There is nothing to contribute to the issue. It’s plain and concise. He is not a bad person. This is something that can happen. I don’t see any problems at all.”
