Arsenal Opens Talks With PSG Over ‘Clear Fit’ For Arteta

According to rumors, Arsenal has initiated talks with Paris Saint-Germain about signing midfielder Fabian Ruiz.

Ruiz was nominated to the UEFA tournament team for Euro 2024, where he scored twice and assisted twice as Spain won a record fourth title.

Ruiz’s professional career, however, has not gone as easily since his £20 million transfer from Napoli to PSG in the summer of 2022.

In his two seasons at the French giants, he has won two Ligue 1 titles and the Coupe de France, but he has failed to establish himself in the first XI, starting only 14 league games last season and four in the last 14.

It’s a perplexing lack of playing time given how brilliant he was for Spain in Germany this summer, and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta saw enough in that tournament to convince him that the 28-year-old is the right fit for Arsenal, despite ‘everything indicating’ that one of Ruiz’s compatriots is also on his way to the Emirates.

Transfer analyst Duncan Castles has stated that the Gunners have ‘started negotiations’ with PSG about a move for the midfielder, claiming on The Transfers Podcast that he is a “obvious fit” for Arteta due to his ball quality and pressing skills.

“For someone a Premier League club is looking at, he won more balls than anyone else in the tournament, and twice as many in the final third of the pitch as any other player,” Duncan Castles remarked on The Transfers Podcast.
