Ex-Barcelona, Real Madrid Star Spends Night In Prison Cell

Former Barcelona, Real Madrid, Malaga and Benfica Star, Javier Saviola did not have the most of the best week as he reportedly woke up in a prison cell.

Saviola was found to have been driving while intoxicated on Sunday night and into Monday morning.

According to Altaveu as reported by Football Espana, Saviola was pulled over by the police in Andorra at 04:40 in the morning and failed a breathalyzer test.

After testing positive for alcohol more than twice, the former Argentina international player was brought to the police station.

Although he has since been freed, the maximum penalty he will receive is a fine and maybe the loss of his driver’s license for the upcoming year.

The 42-year-old coached Barcelona’s under-19 team during the 2022–2023 season. But he departed the team last summer, and it’s unclear if he is coming back to the game.

Saviola moved to Europe in 2001 when he left Argentinian outfit, River Plate for Barcelona. The forward had loan stints at Monaco and Sevilla before leaving for Real Madrid on a free transfer.

Having spent two seasons with Los Blancos where he won the Laliga title, he left to join Benfica.

Saviola retired in 2016 following a stint back home with River Plate.
