Jamie Carragher has slammed Chelsea’s transfer business and urged players not to sign for the club.
Nine new players have joined under new manager Enzo Maresca, while 13 players have left. Joao Felix is scheduled to undergo a medical before joining for £42 million from Atletico Madrid. The Blues’ roster is now overly large as a result of all those additions.
Maresca left 23 starters from his starting lineup for Sunday’s loss to Manchester City. Felix’s impending arrival will cause Maresca even more selection issues, and disputes over playing time are sure to flare up.
According to The Mirror, Carragher has sternly cautioned Chelsea’s prospective recruits to decline a move to Stamford Bridge, as the club shows no signs of slowing down their hiring spree. Additionally, he has questioned the transfer planners of the London club.
What Did Carragher Say About Chelsea’s Transfer Strategy?
“Chelsea have just got to stop buying players and players have got to stop signing for Chelsea. I don’t know why, if I was a player, I’d look at Chelsea and sign,” Carragher fumed on Sky Sports.
“The only reason you might is if your agent says ‘we’re getting a seven year deal on big money’ – it’s guaranteed money. You know what I’d say – back yourself as a player, sign a four-year deal at a proper club, back yourself to do well.
“Then when you’re up for renewal your money goes up anyway. I don’t understand why players are signing seven-year deals. There isn’t anything there. It is not a young and exciting team. They’ve just signed Joao Felix – tell me where he’s going to play.

“They signed Neto a week ago – where is he playing when you’ve got Cole Palmer? Great football teams need competition. But every team I played in, there were seven or eight players who knew they were playing every week.
If you’ve got 40 players – how are you in one dressing room? How are you putting a training session on?”
