Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has shown his support for England teammate and Reds summer transfer target Anthony Gordon. During the European Championships, speculation about a move to the red half of Merseyside grew as it was revealed that Newcastle United wanted to offload the 23-year-old due to profit and sustainability issues.
The Magpies’ concerns were quickly alleviated with the sales of Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh, but speculation about Gordon moving to Liverpool has persisted ever since. Despite the intrigue and conjecture, the wideman has returned with Eddie Howe and his team for the 2017 Premier League season.

On Sunday, he demonstrated his significance to the squad by scoring a critical equaliser in their contentious draw away at AFC Bournemouth. Gordon poked home at the back post with 14 minutes remaining, wiping out Marcus Tavernier’s opening. Andoni Iraola thought they had a late winner when Dango Ouattara rose highest to beat Nick Pope, but his shot was controversially ruled out for handball.

The Reds academy graduate missed the 2-0 win over Brentford due to injury, and he responded to Gordon’s post with a fire emoji. Because of their Merseyside roots, the two share a close friendship.
He told the Northern Echo: “I’ve seen Anthony come back in a good place.” He had a really short training period leading up to that first game, particularly this week.
