Rio Ferdinand has questioned Manchester United’s decision to trade Scott McTominay to Napoli.
The Scotland midfielder is ready to join the Serie A side after the two teams agreed on a deal worth over £25 million.
The 27-year-old came through Manchester United’s youth and has made over 250 senior appearances since his debut in 2017.

While McTominay has not always played a vital part at Old Trafford, the midfielder has consistently scored important goals, notably a comeback quarter-final victory over Liverpool on the way to FA Cup success last year.
And, recalling the effect of certain major Manchester United squad members from his period, Ferdinand argued that Erik ten Hag and the club’s administration were taking a “gamble” by selling the Scot.
“I look at Scott McTominay, and not every player can be a star standout or a franchise player,” the former centre-back stated on Rio Ferdinand Presents.
“I always say that to win the league, you need players like John O’Shea, Wes Brown, Darren Fletcher, Chicharito, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who we had at United.
“Alternatively, you might bring in players like [Julian] Alvarez from [Manchester] City. Last season, for example, Jeremy Doku came in and had an impact even though he did not always start every game.
“Those players are massive. You need those guys, and they understand the DNA, particularly those who come from the academy. Manchester United has always stood by that.
“It doesn’t set right with me. To replace him, you will have to invest £30 million, £40 million, or £50 million, which will not be cheap.
