“The Decision To Move…” – Fabrizio Romano Clarifies The Contract Situation Of Arsenal And Tottenham Target

Eberechi Eze, an Arsenal and Tottenham transfer target, could have expected to depart Crystal Palace after a reasonable summer with the England side, but he has stayed at Selhurst Park.

Former teammate Michael Olise has joined Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, while Newcastle United expressed strong interest in Marc Guehi.

Ultimately, Palace chairman Steve Parish was able to turn down any bids from the Magpies, and it appears that fellow England international Guehi was not looking to leave the Eagles.

Eze, Tottenham’s target, has a simple transfer situation.

Eze, for his part, appeared to be unable to make a final decision.

“I want to clear up any confusion about Eberechi Eze, guys, as the England international did not leave Crystal Palace this summer,” Fabrizio Romano told CaughtOffside during his exclusive Daily Briefing.

“Eze’s contract with the Eagles included a release clause, so the question this summer was never whether the club would accept or deny offers for him.

“If any club had came in and paid the release clause, there was nothing Palace could have done, and the decision to transfer would have been Eze’s alone.

“No team triggered the release clause, and there were no serious contacts, which is why he stayed at Selhurst Park.

“Man City definitely had him on their list for 2023, and Tottenham does appreciate him, but neither club made a formal bid this summer.”

“As Steve Parish said, everything was quiet.”

Financial Fair Play is certainly playing an important role in all teams’ transfer deals, with the Premier League’s efforts to level the playing field bearing results.

Clubs that would previously have been able to go out and get who they wanted at any price are now having to evaluate whether they need to sell first before buying.
