Barcelona Sensation Lamine Yamal Strives To Accomplish What Lionel Messi Never Did

Lamine Yamal, Spain’s adolescent prodigy, stated in a televised interview on Thursday that he aspires “never” to leave Barcelona because he wants to be “a legend” there. Yamal made his Barcelona debut at the age of 15 in April 2023 and quickly rose to prominence last season, becoming an important player for the Catalan giants. “I hope I never leave (Barcelona), I want to be a legend at Barca,” the 17-year-old said on the hit show ‘El Hormiguero’ on Spanish private channel Antena 3.

The winger, who turned 17 in July, played an important role for his country as Spain won Euro 2024 for the fourth time in a row, becoming the competition’s youngest player and scorer in history.

He is Barcelona’s most exciting youth academy talent, drawing comparisons to fellow La Masia alumnus Lionel Messi.

“To be compared to the best in history is incredible and that means you’re doing something right but I try to be me and be remembered for myself,” replied Yamal.

“It will be very difficult to get to that (Messi’s career achievement), so I hope I will be remembered for being Lamine Yamal,” added the comedian.

The teenager said he was coping with the limelight that came from his outstanding Euro performances, which included a breathtaking goal in the semi-final victory over France.

“From an early age, teams like Barcelona teach you to be psychologists. They’ve been preparing me since I was a child. “I am looking forward to the future,” he remarked.

“Since the European Championship, everyone is happy, and there is more smiling. “It was a dream.”
