Manchester City Hope To Sell Kalvin Phillips Next Summer

According to a report from Give Me Sport, Kalvin Phillips has no long-term future at Manchester City. The Premier League winners want to unload the out-of-favour 28-year-old midfielder in the summer transfer window of 2025 in order to clear his £150,000-a-week salaries.

Kalvin Phillips was one of the Premier League’s greatest midfielders when he joined Manchester City from Leeds United in July 2022. The Englishman was a key character for Leeds United, helping the West Yorkshire club remain in the Premier League in the 2021/22 season. However, he has yet to make his imprint with Manchester City.

The 28-year-old has made just 31 appearances for Manchester City so far, totaling just 914 minutes of playing time. Furthermore, a loan stint with West Ham United during the latter part of the 2023–2024 campaign did not pan out. However, after signing a season-long contract with Ipswich Town during the summer transfer window, Phillips is hoping to turn around his faltering career.

With three games played so far, the English midfielder has accrued 227 minutes of game time, steadily establishing himself at Ipswich Town. Nevertheless, it is uncertain if the Tractor Boys intend to finalize a permanent transfer during the summer transfer window of 2025; this will rely on Kalvin Phillips’s 2024–2025 season performances.

What next?

Despite losing Rodri to a chronic knee injury that is expected to finish the Spaniard’s season, recent sources have stated that Manchester City will not bring up Kalvin Phillips from his loan stay with Ipswich Town in January. Therefore, unless the Tractor Boys decide to quickly terminate the loan period, the Englishman will probably stay at Portman Road for the remainder of the 2024–2025 campaign.

Regarding Manchester City, they are eager to get rid of Phillips during the summer transfer window of 2025 in order to put an end to his terrible three-year contract. The Premier League winners are eager to get his £150,000 weekly salary taken out of their records.

Manchester City is hoping that Phillips has a fantastic season while on loan at Ipswich Town and forces potential suitors to make an offer, such as the Tractor Boys.
