England Contacted Real Madrid Manager Carlo Ancelotti Before Thomas Tuchel Appointment

Thomas Tuchel was officially named as the new head coach of England earlier this week.

The former manager of Chelsea and Bayern Munich will start in 2025 and while he is regarded as a great choice, it seems that the English Football Association did not initially choose him.

In recent weeks, Pep Guardiola was connected to the position, but according to Marca, former Barcelona player Gary Lineker has now disclosed that Carlo Ancelotti was also being considered by the English FA.

“It was verified that they had conversations with Pep Guardiola and, to the best of my knowledge, Ancelotti during the summer.”

In 2023, Ancelotti renewed his Real Madrid contract, declining the opportunity to coach Brazil, reports Football Espana

It’s hardly surprising that he expressed little interest in coaching England, as it is quite probable that he will end his career after his tenure at the Santiago Bernabeu is up.

On 25 June 2013, Ancelotti became the manager of Real Madrid, replacing the departing José Mourinho and signing a three-year contract.

He guided Real Madrid to a Copa del Rey championship and their eleventh Champions League win in his debut season.

In May 2015, Ancelotti was fired from Real Madrid, even though the team won more titles and he was given the Miguel Muñoz Trophy for best manager in La Liga in 2014–15.
