Evans Leaps To The Defence Of Ten Hag Amid Man United Adversity

Johnny Evans has reportedly come out to defend his manager, Erik ten Hag despite the difficulties Manchester United are facing this season.

After leading the team to their worst-ever Premier League campaign start, with just eight points from their first seven games, Ten Hag has come under fire this season. The Red Devils have drawn both of their opening two UEFA Europa League games. So their performance on the continent hasn’t been any better either.

Unsurprisingly, these results have sparked rumors that Ten Hag may be fired by United soon, with Gareth Southgate and Thomas Frank being suggested as potential replacements.

Nevertheless, defender Evans was eager to commend his boss in an interview with Sky Sports as reported by 90min, praising his “strength and courage” in spite of the amount of criticism he has received.

“He’s a very strong-minded man and you know, I admire him for that. You see that he’s very principled in the way he wants to work and the way he is as a person, and he very rarely changes,” said Evans.

“He shows a real sort of strength and who he believes that he is, and who he wants to be. And I admire him for that sort of strength and courage to continue. He’s always very positive and his message is always the same and very consistent.

“It’s important – I suppose ’cause that’s the job of the coaches is to create that environment and culture within the club that we still keep pushing and improve the results and obviously the league position.”
