Messi is now aiming for ultimate MLS Cup victory after his performances helped Inter Miami win the Supporters’ Shield and set a new record for the most points in a regular season campaign.
Prior to the playoffs, he scored a hat-trick in 11 minutes against the New England Revolution.
According to Goal, Messi received the Player of the Matchday honors for his display, having previously won similar gong on matchdays nine, eleven, twelve, thirty-two, and thirty-six.
He is one of only two men to win six Player of the Matchday honors in a single season, along with former Inter Miami assistant coach Jason Kreis (1999) and LAFC’s Carlos Vela (2019), who once played as a striker for Arsenal.

Messi has also created another MLS history alongside former Barcelona star Luis Suarez. The 2024 season saw the seasoned Uruguayan forward score 20 goals, making Inter Miami the first side to have two players on their roster accomplish that total in a single regular season.
Messi became the all-time top scorer for the Florida-based club with 33 goals in just 36 games following his hat-trick against the Revs.
