Manchester United fans finally have to say a proper goodbye to Sofyan Amrabat following the Red Devils’ 1-1 draw against Fenerbahce in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night.
The Morocco international played the whole game for Jose Mourinho’s team as Christian Eriksen’s first-half goal was cancelled out by a goal from Youssef En-Nesyri.
According to Manchester World, Amrabat approached the away end of the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium after the final whistle, where he stood and cheered the United fans he had never had a chance to properly say farewell to throughout the summer.
Erik ten Hag wished to activate an option to purchase Amrabat permanently from loan club Fiorentina. But the United board refused to fulfill his demand because they had other priorities.
Amrabat made his final appearance for United in the FA Cup final victory over Man City back in May.
After giving up on ever returning to Old Trafford, the 28-year-old spent a large portion of the summer waiting for word from United before joining Fenerbahce on loan.
Earlier this week, Amrabat talked about his time at United and how, if Ten Hag had his way, he might have stayed longer.

“I have a special relationship with Ten Hag since I was a 20-year-old at Utrecht,” he said.
“He wanted to keep me this summer so I wish him the best but not for Thursday. I hope they lose.” When further pressed on his exit, he added: “The only thing that I want to say is that you have to ask Mr Wilcox.”
