Van Dijk Throws ‘Easy’ Jibe At Arsenal Rival Over Liverpool Goal

Liverpool defender, Virgil van Dijk has reportedly claimed it was easy for him to lose his marker when he scored to restore the parity in the Reds’ 2-2 draw against Arsenal on Sunday.

After losing Thomas Partey to head home a Trent Alexander-Arnold corner, Van Dijk equalized after Bukayo Saka gave Arsenal the lead early on with a deft finish. After that, Mikel Merino scored his first goal of the season for Arsenal, but Mohamed Salah’s late goal saved the Reds a point.

According to The Mirror, speaking after the game, the Liverpool captain said: “It’s a very tough place to come, teams have noticed that over the years.

“They have created a solid team and make it difficult for everyone. To come back twice is a good thing, we take the point – that’s the feeling.

“When I was marked by Thomas Partey, he only looked at me, so it was quite easy to get away from him. You need a bit of luck, and I was there to tap it in. I try to be important on every set piece we have.

“You play here, they create momentum, so you have to be ready to fight. That was the message. One point, we take it, we move now to the Carabao Cup.”

Ben White moved inside to partner Gabriel Magalhaes, forcing Partey to fill in at right-back against Liverpool. Riccardo Calafiori and Takehiro Tomiyasu were both out due to injuries, and William Saliba was suspended.
