Arsenal ‘Unhappy’ With Premier League Following VAR Announcement

Arsenal are reportedly not happy after learning that the Premier League has appointed Jarred Gillett as the VAR Official for their visit to Newcastle United on Saturday.

Gillett’s final involvement in a Gunners game had him advising Rob Jones to examine the pitchside VAR monitor for William Saliba’s possible dismissal at Bournemouth. Before the original yellow card was overturned, which contributed to Arsenal’s only loss this season.

As the man in the middle for Arsenal’s victories over Wolves and Tottenham this season, Gillett has already appeared in three of the team’s nine league games.

Gillett was criticized when he did little to nothing as Yerson Mosquera seemed to grab Kai Havertz by the neck during the season opener against Wolves, which ended in a 2-0 victory for Arsenal.

According to The Mirror as claimed by Daily Express, after a number of Gillett’s previous decisions didn’t work out for them, Arsenal are not pleased that he has been assigned for their next game.

Arteta was particularly irritated with Gillett during Arsenal’s defeat against Aston Villa the previous season. Gillett did not give a penalty for Douglas Luiz’s hit on Gabriel Jesus. He also denied Havertz’s late equalizer for handball, a ruling that VAR backed.

After the game at Villa Park, Arteta, who was suspended for the game, remained silent and merely said that he had “a big opinion” about the officiating calls, which were “clear and obvious to me.”
