Manchester United reportedly considered the transfer of Brighton and Hove Albion forward, Danny Welbeck with former manager, Erik ten Hag believing he will be a great addition for his team.
After firing Ten Hag on Monday, United are allegedly nearing an agreement to hire Ruben Amorim of Sporting as their new head coach.
Despite certain obstacles pertaining to the 39-year-old’s “notice period” in Lisbon, Amorim may be in charge of the Red Devils’ Premier League game against Chelsea on Sunday.
Ten Hag departed the team leaving them winless in the Europa League and 14th in the Premier League. On Wednesday, the Red Devils will play Leicester City in the Carabao Cup. Assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy will serve as interim manager for this match.
During his tenure at Old Trafford, the Dutchman made a number of dubious acquisitions, including Lisandro Martinez and Antony, two players he oversaw at Ajax.
According to The Athletic as reported by Football365, Ten Hag wanted Man United to sign Brighton striker Welbeck during the summer transfer window.
Welbeck a member of the Red Devils from 2001 to 2014. He made his first-team debut against Sunderland in April 2008.

Under Fabian Hurzeler, he has been playing well for Brighton, scoring six goals in nine Premier League games in 2024–2025.
If the deal had gone through, people would have been surprised. But Ten Hag might have been proven right going by the seasoned striker’s performances this season.
