Saudi Arabian media have stated that Al-Ettifaq fired former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard.
The 44-year-old has reportedly been fired by the Pro League team, according to a Middle Eastern report from Saudi Sport.
It comes after Ettifaq’s dramatic Saudi King’s Cup departure last night when they were beaten by a club from the second division.
After losing 3-1 against Al-Jabalain in the competition’s round of 16, the Liverpool legend’s club fell to a new low.
Since Ettifaq is now ranked 10th in the Pro League, Gerrard has been under increasing pressure.
Additionally, they have not won in five games and on September 14 they last earned three league points.
The English football legend has only been with Al-Ettifaq for 16 months and his contract is worth £15.2 million annually.
Among the many well-known figures who joined the Saudi football movement last year, he led the team to a sixth-place finish in his first season in the Middle East.
Gerrard’s dismissal has not yet been formally confirmed by Ettifaq, reports Rangers Review.
Rangers’ 2-1 loss to Aberdeen at Pittodrie left Kris Boyd incensed with the team’s back-to-front performance.
With the defeat, Philippe Clement’s team drops nine points from Celtic and the Dons, who are tied with 28 points each.
