Mezut Ozil appears to have poked fun at his Arsenal team-mate Oliver Giroud by ‘liking’ an Instagram post mocking the Frenchman’s poor scoring form.
The pair had combined beautifully at the start of the season with many suggesting they could rocket Arsenal to a league title this campaign.
The German playmaker even looked set the break Thierry Henry’s assist record, needing to set up only six further goals by December 22.
However, Giroud’s luck seemed to run out after Christmas as the striker’s confidence drained away. The goals subsequently dried up and after scoring in January’s 3-3 draw with Liverpool, Giroud went 15 league appearances without a goal.
As such, Giroud is probably use to being made fun of on social media. The Frenchman has always been subject to online trolls as many question the striker’s capability to step into the shoes of past Arsenal strikers.
But this time it got personal. It seems Ozil was slightly bitter…
Many thought Ozil was finally going to live up to his billing after making a surprise move to the Gunners in 2013. The Germany international started the season so well but failed to keep up the good form as Arsenal struggled in the new year.
Despite still being the top assist-maker in the Premier League this season, Ozil failed to record an assist in March and April.
His French teammate may have scored 16 goals this season, but could it be that Ozil blames Giroud for his failure to break Henry’s record? Of course, it could always be light-hearted fun…
