Lampard was the manager of Goodison Park when he was coaching Onana. He has supported him to “grow at a team like Aston Villa” despite saying he was “very important” to the Toffees’ setup. He also called Unai Emery a “good coach” and praised the system he has developed at Villa Park.
“He is a great talent,” Chelsea legend Lampard stated in an interview with Sky Sports. He is a multifaceted individual. He routinely scores goals and plays excellent defense because of his physical prowess.
He was crucial to our success at Everton, but I think he will develop further at a place like Aston Villa, where there will be plenty of competition, a competent coach and a nice atmosphere, reports Birmingham World.
Onana agreed to a five-year contract with Premier League team Everton on August 2022, for an estimated £33 million, plus add-ons. On January 14, 2023, in a 2-1 home loss to Southampton, he headed a corner to score his first Premier League goal for Everton.
Onana signed a five-year contract with rival Premier League team Aston Villa on July 22, 2024, in a reported £50 million deal.
