Unai Emery Highlights ‘Key Objective’ In The Champions League To Aston Villa

Unai Emery, the manager of Aston Villa, has instructed his team to defeat Club Brugge on Wednesday in order to advance to the Champions League round of 16.

Villa leads the table after winning their first three games and a win in Belgium would put them in the strong position to place in the top eight in the competition’s new league phase in their debut season.

That would eliminate the requirement for a play-off round in February and put them straight into the round of 16.

According to Emery, they should automatically qualify if they defeat the Belgian champions, who have suffered defeats to Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan.

“Tomorrow we have the possibility to get one step ahead in this competition, to be a contender in the top eight,” he said.

“This is a really amazing objective we can achieve and can face tomorrow.

Amadou Onana, a midfielder for Villa from Belgium, is looking forward to a “special” event as he appears to be making his first club debut in his native nation, reports UK Sports

He is even more driven as he works to generate funds for Solidarite Grands Froids, a charity that helps Belgium’s homeless population.

The Belgium international stated, “It’s my way of giving back, God has given me the chance to be in the position I’m in.”
