After only a few months in the Spanish capital, the French superstar has fallen short of the expectations placed on him at the Santiago Bernabeu.
For the second consecutive international window, Mbappe has been absent from the France national team.
After claiming fitness problems to avoid being called up, the 25-year-old’s absence last month caused a great deal of controversy when he was seen visiting Sweden as his teammates played Israel in the UEFA Nations League.
Even though the Real Madrid star made himself available, manager Didier Deschamps has left Mbappe out this time, raising concerns about his future with the national team, especially since he is the captain, reports Madrid Universal.
Mbappe has had some support from his France teammate Dayot Upamecano despite the media’s incessant abuse, both in Spain and France.
“We’re not worried. We must not forget what Kylian has done for the French team. We don’t give him enough credit,” said the Bayern Munich defender.
“I hope to see him again very soon, because we mustn’t forget that he’s our captain. I hope to see him again very soon because he’s very important to us.”
