Former Birmingham City player Jude Bellingham mirrored Harry Kane’s thoughts on the players who opted out of England duty this week following the 3-0 victory over Greece.
The Three Lions headed into Thursday night’s crucial match in Athens knowing that only a win would put them in pole position to win their Nations League group, following last month’s surprise setback to Ivan Jovanovic’s team at Wembley.
Ollie Watkins gave England an early lead, laying the groundwork for Lee Carsley’s side. England scored two more goals after halftime, an own goal from Odysseas Vlachodimos and a debut goal from Curtis Jones, to reclaim first place in Group B2.

Carsley had a difficult lead-up to the game, with as many as NINE England stars opting out of the squad. This caused Kane to express his dissatisfaction in a pre-match interview, saying: “I believe England comes first. It comes before the club and is the most significant role you can play as a professional footballer.”
“Gareth was on hot on that and he wasn’t afraid and he wasn’t afraid to make decisions if that started to drift from certain players.”
“It’s a shame this week. Yeah, I believe it’s a difficult phase of the season, and maybe that’s been used a little bit,” According The Mirror.
In a post-match interview with ITV Sport, Bellingham praised his teammates, saying: “A lot was made of the lads who weren’t here, but I think the lads who did show up were amazing.” Curtis [Jones] made his debut, scored, and played brilliantly. I’m really proud of the boys tonight.
