Chelsea has had an excellent start to the Premier League season under Enzo Maresca, sitting third in the rankings after 11 matches. Offensively, the Blues have had little to worry about, but they can perform a much better job defensively given their goal conceded per game in the English top flight.
Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana are excellent center defenders, but they lack the experience to be Chelsea title contenders. Having said that, the Blues are looking to add some experience to their backline and have targeted Jonathan Tah of Bayer Leverkusen as a potential signing. According to Caught Offside, the Londoners are currently ‘leading the race’ to sign him next summer.

Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Tottenham Hotspur have all expressed interest in signing Tah as a free agent, but it is believed that Chelsea has taken the lead in completing the trade, according to the report. Tah may sign a pre-contract in January, so the Blues may want to resolve the matter sooner rather than later.
Tah will boost Chelsea significantly.
The signing of Jonathan Tah would significantly enhance Chelsea’s backline. He has been one of the Bundesliga’s greatest defenders in recent years, and his experience playing high-octane football for a team like Bayer Leverkusen will leave no doubt about his adaptability in the Premier League.
Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana are not very good aerially, and Benoit Badiashile and Tosin Adarabioyo have struggled to obtain minutes in the Premier League, implying that Maresca has less faith in the pair. Tah is, however, a superior defender than any of Chelsea’s existing choices, and he would almost certainly start.
Chelsea’s qualification for the Champions League may be the only thing preventing Tah from signing a pre-contract with them, despite the fact that they have the potential to finish in the top four this season. His transfer will acquire traction as the new year approaches and he is legally able to commit to his next move.
