FC Barcelona star Xavi Hernandez has been linked to a possible reunion with former teammate Lionel Messi at Inter Miami, where he might take over as head coach.
According to SPORT, which cited anonymous sources, the renowned midfielder has already stated his intentions to occupy the now-vacant position.
Despite having a year left on his contract, the previous occupier, Tata Martino, stepped aside from his duties for personal reasons this week, according to ESPN, which also cited unidentified sources.
Tite, Joachim Low, Frank Lampard, and Erik ten Hag are among the candidates vying for the position of future head coach at the David Beckham-owned franchise.

Xavi is also on the shortlist, according to Mundo Deportivo and SPORT, but the latter newspaper claims that the ex-number 6’s stance is unchanged since Ten Hag’s dismissal from Manchester United.
When Ten Hag was fired by Manchester United last month, reports suggested that Xavi would be in charge of the dugout at Old Trafford.
According to the same two Catalan newspapers, the 44-year-old declined the offer because he wanted to finish a planned sabbatical of at least a year.
Following a January decision to quit at the end of the 2023/2024 season, Xavi agreed to see out his Barca contract, which was slated to expire on June 30, 2025.
After publicly exposing the Blaugrana’s financial troubles and how they hinder the club’s ability to compete with fierce rival Real Madrid, Xavi was fired by President Joan Laporta and opted to take a sabbatical to spend more time with his family and step away from soccer for a while.
