Arsenal Could Equal Unwanted Champions League Record Against Sporting

Arsenal will hope to return to winning ways when they play Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League today.

After losing to Inter Milan 1-0 in their most recent European match, the Gunners fell to 12th place in the League Phase standings.

Arsenal will go into this match fresh off a 3-0 Premier League victory last weekend, and Mikel Arteta will be hoping for a strong response.

They play Sporting, who are undefeated and beginning the remainder of their season without Ruben Amorim, who recently joined Manchester United.

Arsenal are about to set a record that they don’t want to achieve.

The Gunners have lost three and drawn two of their five away Champions League games, leaving them without a victory.

The Gunners have also failed to score in the previous four.

According to talkSPORT, in the 2004–05 season, Manchester United became the only English side to go five games without scoring.

Therefore, in order to avoid equalling that moment in history, they must find ways to score against Sporting.

Arteta’s side have only managed to score three goals overall in their first four Champions League games.

They have conceded just one, though, and it seems like there aren’t many exciting games in Europe this season.

Tuesday is expected to be a goal-fest, and Arsenal must find at least one to fall short of United’s record.
