The 25-year-old French superstar is having trouble making the type of effect that one would anticipate from a player of his caliber and has fallen short of expectations.
Real Madrid lost 2-0 at Anfield in the UEFA Champions League this week, and the former PSG star put on one of his worst performances against Liverpool.
Mbappe was used in his favorite position on the left flank, but he made little impression and even missed a game-winning penalty, reports Madrid Universal.
Mbappe has come under fire from Real Madrid legend Guti, who said that the Frenchman appeared scared and doubtful when he took the penalty against Liverpool.
‘We would all like to know what’s wrong with Mbappe. He looks lacking in confidence before he took the penalty, he looked scared.
In that sense he is surely not happy with his performance and wants something more,” said Guti.
“I think Mbappe hasn’t been up to the task, obviously. That’s the reality,” he added.
Guti went on to assert that Mbappe is among the best players in the world and encouraged him to generate a powerful response with the help of club officials Florentino Perez and Carlo Ancelotti.
