Nine guys were arrested following complaints of tragic chanting during Liverpool recent match against Manchester City at Anfield. On Sunday afternoon (December 1), the two Premier League titans faced off in a crucial clash in the title chase.
Following the match, Merseyside Police made a number of arrests on suspicion of tragic chanting, a public order offense. One man has been charged and is scheduled to appear in court.
Kian Holt, 19, of Weeton Road, Medlar-with-Wesham, Lancashire, was charged with a public order violation under the S3 Football Offence Act 1991 (tragedy chanting). He’ll appear at Sefton Magistrates Court on January 8, 2025.

Police also detained a 38-year-old man from Audenshaw, a 32-year-old man from Macclesfield, a 52-year-old man from Denton, a 57-year-old man from Failsworth, and a 53-year-old man from Manchester on suspicion of tragedy chanting. Meanwhile, a 28-year-old Prestwich man has been arrested on suspicion of tragedy chanting and common assault. According To BBC News.
These six suspects have since been granted bail. Merseyside Police released two Rochdale men, aged 47 and 58, who were held on suspicion of tragic chanting due to their voluntary presence.
Liverpool won 2-0 on Sunday, thanks to Cody Gakpo’s goal in the first half and Mohammed Salah’s penalty in the second. City’s fourth league defeat in a row dropped Pep Guardiola’s team to fifth position in the rankings, 11 points behind leaders Liverpool.
