Phil Foden has stated that Manchester City are dealing with mentality issues in their dressing room as he becomes the latest figure to disagree with Pep Guardiola’s claims.
City looked to be on their way to a derby victory over Manchester United which appeared to have stopped their downward trend. Guardiola was on the verge of substituting John Stones to close the game before Matheus Nunes strangely passed back to Amad Diallo before giving up a penalty when he tried to stop the winger.
After Bruno Fernandes equalized from the spot, City let Amad grab the game-winning goal, allowing United to celebrate an unexpected victory and the Sky Blues’ miserable run to continue.
This week, Guardiola emphasized that the team’s success isn’t due to a lack of faith in the dressing room. The Spanish boss claimed he didn’t agree with Ilkay Gundogan claim there was a mental problem following Juventus’ loss this week.

According to Birmingham Live, ahead of Saturday’s match against Aston Villa, Foden has already called the run “unacceptable,” joining Gundogan in admitting the team lacks confidence at the moment.
“The game was in our hands,” he told Match of the Day. “At 1-0 up we were controlling the game. We had a lot of possession.
“You can concede at 1-1 but you can’t concede straight after, that’s unacceptable. It’s just one of those, it’s the way it is. At the start when you lose a couple of games no [it’s not a confidence issue], but when it happens a lot it feels like a mental thing.
“We need to get out of that and get back to winning ways and pick ourselves back up.”
