Varela’s transfer to Camp Nou had been simmering for weeks in complete secrecy and the conversations over the transaction have just recently become public.
Varela recently met with Barcelona’s sporting director Deco to discuss the club’s initiative and his future aspirations with the squad.
Barça is unlikely to stop either, as they continue to explore the market for young talents.
For the time being, Varela is expected to join Barcelona’s youth squad, where he will compete against a slew of other quality wingers hoping to make an impression in the first team, reports Barca Universal.
The Catalans are expected to have a difficult time registering their summer additions and the club may decide not to sign any players at all.
However, Barcelona has continued to scout for youth possibilities across Europe, and the club is close to reaching a breakthrough in the agreement to recruit one of Portugal’s most promising young players.
