The 27-year-old winger, who signed a low-cost contract with the Reds during the summer transfer window, has had difficulty getting consistent playing time. Due to fitness concerns, he hasn’t played for Liverpool since September.
Slot’s squad is the clear favorite going into Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup quarterfinal matchup against managerless Southampton, and the Dutchman himself stated that his lineup will feature a variety of players.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Slot said of Chiesa: “You can expect him to get minutes.
He won’t get 90. It is a game where not all our starters will start. We have to balance. He will make minutes.”
Slot also announced that Caoimhin Kelleher will start against the Saints, reports Mirror.
He had performed admirably in previous Premier League games while filling in for the injured Alisson.
Both the player and fans will be encouraged by Chiesa’s return to first-team action.
Additionally, it could help settle rumors that the winger is already thinking about his future at Anfield after it was reported that Italian teams were lining him up for a loan transfer in January.
