The seasoned midfielder is now practicing with the Clarets in an attempt to secure a contract with Scott Parker’s team.
The former Newcastle United midfielder is currently a free agent after leaving Turkish club Eyüpspor by mutual consent at the beginning of this month.
Parker provided an update on Shelvey’s current status, stating that he is still training with them. Shelvey has been with them for a few days, and they decided to bring Jonjo in due to his quality and the need for a closer look.
“He’s been with us for a couple of days, three or four days, practicing with us; we chose to invite Jonjo in because we know his quality and wanted to take a closer look. Reported by Burnley Express.
“We’ve not made a decision yet and we’ll have those conversations in the coming days with Jonjo on how I see things and where he sits with it as well really.”

When questioned if he’s closer to signing than not, Parker added: “I’m not really sure at this present moment in time.
“It’s been such a short space of time that Jonjo’s been here. But he’s been first class since he’s come in, applied himself in the right way. But it’s still too early to say.”
Parker recently conceded that Burnley’s central midfield options are limited following Han-Noah Massengo’s loan move to Auxerre.
Shelvey last played in England in 2023, when he briefly joined Nottingham Forest following his seven-year stay with Newcastle United.
Shelvey began his career at Charlton Athletic and then played for Liverpool, Blackpool, and Swansea City.
