Barcelona’s persistent efforts to secure Frenkie de Jong on a new long-term contract have been widely publicized.
However, the club has not seen much progress because the midfielder’s representation are well aware that the player may have to accept a pay cut.
Barcelona, for their part, sees de Jong’s contract extension as important, as the club seeks to secure the midfielder’s long-term future while also lowering the cost of his wage package.
De Jong’s representatives arrived in Barcelona.
To that purpose, Jijantes just reported that de Jong’s agent, Ali Dursun, has arrived in Barcelona.
Dursun was supposed to meet Barcelona’s sporting director Deco, but the Brazilian had to leave for Porto for personal reasons.

It is unclear whether the meeting was meant to discuss de Jong’s new contract, but it is certain that Barcelona is already negotiating with the Dutchman’s representation.
In any case, it appears that Dursun will use his Barcelona vacation to witness the team’s forthcoming La Liga match against Rayo Vallecano on Monday.
Given de Jong’s recent play, the Dutchman will have a good argument to be named to the starting eleven ahead of Marc Casado.
Even if de Jong does not start, he will most certainly play in the second half, when his technical abilities could be useful if Barcelona struggles to get past the Vallecano defensive line.
Nonetheless, it is evident that the next few months will be critical as Deco and Dursun work to find an arrangement that benefits all parties concerned.
