Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah opened the scoring, but Youri Tielemans and Ollie Watkins scored before halftime to put Aston Villa ahead.
Darwin Nunez wasted a wonderful opportunity to put the Reds in lead during the encounter, blasting over the bar from approximately six yards out.
On Thursday morning, Liverpool manager Arne Slot reviewed Nunez’s miss and work-rate, going on to choose one of his teammates as the guy with the right mindset, reports TBR Football.
Speaking to the Liverpool media team, Slot criticized Nunez for his work ethic following the miss rather than his miss itself.
“I can accept every miss,” Slot added, “especially from a player who scored two crucial goals against Brentford and scored for us against Villa at home.”
“I would prefer him to score but the word ‘chance’ says it all – it’s a chance, so it’s not 100 per cent sure that the ball goes in.
“But what was a bit harder for me to accept was his behaviour after that chance.
Slot went on to say that Nunez may take guidance from someone like Wataru Endo, who “just keeps on going” under any situation and is always prepared when called upon.
