Kaka has pulled out of Brazil‘s squad for this summer’s Copa America with a hamstring injury, just under one week after he was called up by Dunga to replace Bayern Munich‘s Douglas Costa.
The 34-year-old, who has has 91 caps to his name, is currently plying his trade with MLS outfit Orlando City and has fallen out of favour on the international scene in recent years as the younger stars continue to come through.
However, the attacking midfielder was handed a big boost last week when Costa pulled out with an injury, prompting Dunga to turn to the former AC Milan star.
However, Kaka, who has netted 29 goals for the Selecao during his international career, saw his joy short-lived after Brazil confirmed on Thursday morning that the former Real Madrid man had suffered a hamstring injury.
The former FIFA World Player of the Year will be replaced by Sao Paulo’s Paulo Henrique Ganso but Dunga will really be kicking himself as his side continue to be set-back by injuries.
Costa and Kaka join Ricardo Oliveira Santos, Ederson and Rafinha on the unavailable list for Brazil this summer, but Dunga will be hoping that is the end of his bad luck.
Kaka made his debut for Brazil in a friendly match against Bolivia in January 2002 and went on to play a small part in the country’s World Cup-winning squad in Korea/Japan that year.
