Virgil van Dijk, a defender for Liverpool, has come under fire from Wayne Rooney for his “lazy” attempt to press the ball for Paris Saint-Germain’s goal during their Champions League loss.

After defeating PSG 1-0 in the first leg of their last-16 match, the Reds suffered a similar defeat on Tuesday before losing the match on penalties following extra time.
Ousmane Dembele scored the vital goal for the visitors at Anfield on Tuesday night, putting Liverpool under 1-0 after just 12 minutes.
Before sprinting into the area and getting the ball back to bundle it over the line in front of the PSG fans, Dembele threw the ball out wide to Bradley Barcola.
Dominik Szoboszlai and Ibrahima Konate were the closest defenders to Alisson when he came out of goal, but Dembele was able to send the ball into the net after Liverpool defender Konate had first intercepted.
Additionally, Rooney criticized Van Dijk for being “lazy” in the lead-up to PSG’s goal, allowing Dembele to take advantage of “a massive gap” reports Football 365.
At halftime, Rooney stated: “From Liverpool’s perspective, this goal is incorrect in a lot of ways.
Van Dijk is being lackadaisical when they are attempting to press the ball. Van Dijk is walking if you keep your eyes on him. He creates a huge void for Dembele.
