Following another disappointing season, Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku has been called “absolutely and utterly invisible.”
The French forward, who cost £52 million to sign from German team RB Leipzig in 2023, had a terrible first season due to injuries, scoring only three goals overall. This season, he has 14 goals, but only three of them have come in the Premier League.
Former Liverpool player Steve Nicol has criticized the forward for his performances, including a lackluster showing in Chelsea’s most recent 1-0 loss to London rivals Arsenal at the Emirates.
He said: “Nkunku was absolutely and utterly invisible. In fact, he’s been invisible since he went to Chelsea. At least [Pedro] Neto was running around and looked interested.”

Although Nicol has been rather vocal about his feelings for Nkunku, former Arsenal player Paul Merson has stood up for the striker. During his time with Chelsea, he claimed that Maresca has been playing him out of position.
Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “Christopher Nkunku’s position is not on the wing. I feel sorry for him. I like him, I think he’s a good player. He’s one that plays behind the centre-forward.
“He’s an intelligent footballer, connects things, but the problem is Palmer’s been outstanding. I don’t think Chelsea were foreseeing Palmer being as good as what he was hence why they bought Nkunku for a lot of money.”
