Brazilian legend Pele has hailed Jose Mourinho as ‘an excellent coach’ following the Special One’s appointment to become Manchester United manager.
The Portuguese succeeds Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford who was given his marching orders after failing to secure Champions League football at the Theatre of Dreams next season.
He has won league titles in Portugal, Italy, England and Spain and will look to land a fourth Premier League crown when the new season starts in August.
Pele, who scored 77 goals in 91 appearances for Brazil firing them to three World Cups, was at the ProDirect store on Carnaby Street on Wednesday before attending a black-tie dinner in his honour in Battersea through Simply Prestige.
When asked what makes a good coach, Pele said: “First of all – they have to have luck. No doubt – luck is very important.
“The coaches should understand football and know the team.
“Jose Mourinho is a good coach. He’s a very, very good coach. I hope he has luck because sometimes a good coach doesn’t win tournaments.
“In respect to him – he is an excellent coach.”
