Premier League Confirms mid-Season Rule Change Harming Manchester United And Manchester City

As the season winds down, Manchester United and Manchester City will aim to achieve their Premier League aspirations.

Under Ruben Amorim, United hope to improve their form and enter the upcoming season on a good note, with something to build on. City, who now sits fifth in the league, is trying to qualify for the Champions League next season.

However, the Premier League is implementing a new rule change later in April that will affect both teams’ final games of the season this year, prior to the final week in late May.

The Premier League has announced that it will introduce semi-automated offside technology. It will be used in close-call situations and will be able to overturn the original on-field decision, much like VAR. According To Manchester Worlds.

Semi-automated offside has been used successfully in the FA Cup this season, so the PGMOL has chosen to introduce it to the Premier League for the latter stages of the season, with the hope that it will become a regular fixture by next year.

It uses player monitoring and virtual graphics to build a more precise offside line, which should speed up disputed offside judgments when a team scores a goal.

It will affect both United and City with it first being introduced from Saturday 12 April until the end of the season.
