De Gea welcomes Mourinho to Man United: “Jose is a winner”

The excitement over the arrival of Jose Mourinho to Old Trafford has extended to the first XI and David De Gea has been one of the first to welcome the Portuguese to his new surroundings.

The Spaniard was on the brink of joining Real Madrid last summer before a broken fax machine scuppered the transfer on deadline day.

De Gea signed a new big money contract at United just days later but there were fears Real would reignite their bid to sign the goalkeeper again.

However, he has attempted to put all speculation to bed by admitting he’s excited to work under new manager Mourinho.

In the midst of reports claiming he wants out of United, the ex-Atletico Madrid No. 1 made his feelings clear.

“Talk about Jose Mourinho and you’re talking about a winner,” De Gea told MARCA.

“Winning is United’s, Jose’s and my philosophy.

“We can make a great team and I welcome him.”

Last summer’s deadline day on-off transfer saga with Real Madrid was inevitably going to become relevant again following the end of the domestic season, and reports of a possible move from Los Blancos rekindled speculation about his future.

“People talk a lot and they know little,” the keeper continued.

“I know how all this works, but what I think is disrespectful is when people start making out that it’s something I have said.

“I’ve got three more years on my contract with United and the desire to win more titles here.”

The Red Devils finished the season without securing a place in the Champions League, but ended a three-year trophy drought with victory in the FA Cup.

“When it comes to United, if you don’t win everything, it’s not good enough,” admitted De Gea.

“This FA Cup is important for the club, it’s important for the fans, and it’s an important step towards winning major titles again.”
