Italian prosecutors and the Italian Football Federation are conducting an investigation into Tonali’s alleged involvement in illegal betting activities, primarily during his time at AC Milan. Newcastle United has confirmed Tonali’s full cooperation with the ongoing probe, emphasizing their commitment to working closely with relevant authorities.
Tonali’s agent, Giuseppe Riso, disclosed last week that his client is grappling with a “gambling addiction,” a revelation that caught Stefano Pioli, his former coach at AC Milan, by surprise. “If I cared for Sandro before, I now care for him even more. I am committed to supporting him and being by his side. At this moment, I don’t believe it’s appropriate to add anything further.”
AC Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani also echoed these sentiments, stating, “Sandro is beloved by all AC Milan fans. Like everyone else, we have been relying on news reports for updates. We have received no other official information. We are patiently awaiting further developments. It appears to be a situation of concern affecting more than just one individual.”
