Everton striker Ademola Lookman has revealed that manager Ronald Koeman instructed him to play in behind Romelu Lukaku when he entered the fray in their Premier League game against Manchester City.
Lookman, who joined the Toffees from Charlton Athletic earlier this month, enjoyed a dream debut as he came on in the closing stages and scored his side’s final goal in an emphatic 4-0 victory.
As reported by BBC Sport, Lookman said: “The gaffer said I should play behind Romelu Lukaku and I was lucky to anticipate the ball.”
Everton were hugely impressive as they comfortably dispatched of City, and Lookman will be delighted with the impact that he made after entering the fray.
Possessing pace in abundance as well as clinical finishing ability, Lookman is an extremely exciting young talent and his arrival provides Everton with a much-needed additional attacking option.
Lukaku, who was also on target today, is firmly established as Everton’s first-choice striker, but Lookman is an excellent option to have on the bench.
Everton will hope to build upon this victory when they face Crystal Palace away next weekend.
