Former coordinator of Super Eagles, Emmanuel Attah has expressed the optimism that Nigeria could go all the way to win the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroun if they take every game as a final, Completesports.com reports
Attah who was the team coordinator when the Super Eagles won the AFCON in 2013 in South Africa said he was impressed with the way the team dispersed the Pharaohs of Egypt 1-0 in their opening match in Group D, adding that interim coach Augustine Eguavoen has transformed the Eagles into a fighting team within a short time
“Eguavoen has done a wonderful job with the Eagles as the interim coach within a short time. He has been able to make the Eagles play good football and give Nigerians something to cheer about with that win over Egypt. For a long time I stopped watching the Super Eagles because their game was no longer pleasing to the eyes,” Attah told completesports.com in Abuja.

“The team can go all the way to win the cup if they stick together as a unit and take every game as if it is the final of AFCON. They should not get complacent by underrating any team. In South Africa, that was how we took every game and God rewarded our hard work with the AFCON trophy.
“This current Super Eagles are blessed with some young talents who are hungry for success and they they remain focused and take every game seriously. Most importantly, they should be disciplined in and outside the pitch, as well as playing to instructions of the coaches. I am optimistic the Eagles have what it takes to win the trophy if they don’t get carried away by the accolades they have been receiving for beating Egypt,” the former FCT FA boss stated.
On what impressed him most about the Super Eagles, Attah said it was the courage Eguavoen showed in team selection and substitutions, adding that he featured players who were on form and who impressed in training sessions.
“I don’t want to be drawn into the issue of foreign or local coaches, but I want the best for Nigeria and whoever will win for Nigeria is my choice. If Eguavoen wins the AFCON it will be injustice not to allow him to continue with the job as coach in the World Cup qualifiers, and possibly the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar,” Attah concluded.
