Victor Osimhen of Napoli is expected to be the target of a major summer transfer attempt by Manchester United, according to an Italian agent.
Osimhen, 25, signed a new contract that extends until December 2026, but it seems likely that he will leave the Serie A champions in the upcoming months.
Although United’s name has been brought up more frequently, the Nigerian is primarily being linked to a move to Chelsea or Paris Saint-Germain.
Rasmus Hojlund is the only true striker in the Red Devils’ first team lineup, as Anthony Martial is almost certain to leave Old Trafford when his contract expires in June.
Agent Suggestions
De Fanti noted: “I could say everyone, but the truth is that United above all are looking for a centre forward. Hojlund is doing reasonably well, but the classic number No.9 – the [Erling] Haaland of the situation – could be Osimhen.”
Given Hojlund’s performance, it would be questionable if Osimhen’s reported £110 million release clause were paid, but if Ratcliffe and his INEOS colleagues want to make a splash in their first summer transfer window, signing one of Europe’s most prolific marksmen would be it.
Even though the 25-year-old recently committed to a new contract, Aurelio De Laurentiis, the president of Napoli, has made it clear that Osimhen will be leaving if a team fulfills his new buyout clause.
What Is Next For Osimhen?
De Laurentiis explained: “Victor is another good player that Napoli have. We had (Edinson) Cavani, (Gonzalo) Higuain, (Ezequiel) Lavezzi and we had (Dries) Mertens, we had a lot of people who were fantastic.
“And there are others who are attracted by Real Madrid, by Paris Saint-Germain, by Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea. So you cannot stop them, especially when they have a fixed amount of money where they can be bought.
“Osimhen is a very great player – but you know Napoli is a fantastic place. There are certain players who fell in love with Napoli and stayed, like (Marek) Hamsik for 11 years. Or like others for eight years.
“[Osimhen] has a release clause. Its a very big amount of money. Who knows who will leave, we will see. The money is the last problem for Napoli. We always made very good acquisitions as we did in the past. We will do (so) in the future.
“The problem is just sentimental problems. When you see a player leave, it’s like a son. You are also happy if this son has fantastic success everywhere else.”
The man himself has already stated that he is aware of his next course of action, and PSG is currently leading the race to sign Kylian Mbappe, who is heading to Real Madrid.
To begin a new era, United could, however, put an end to their pursuit and sign Osimhen.
