Alan Shearer Drops Ruben Amorim Sack Verdict After Man Utd v Newcastle

Alan Shearer feels Manchester United have to remain with Ruben Amorim and give him ‘loads of money’ to spend in the forthcoming transfer windows, as he confessed the Portuguese coach has a ‘huge job’ ahead of him.

The Red Devils suffered a worrisome 4-1 defeat against Newcastle United on Sunday, giving further ammo to Amorim’s critics and casting further doubts over his long-term future at Old Trafford.

Shearer, on the other hand, believes the former Sporting Lisbon manager will remain in charge despite United’s worst-ever Premier League finish, and that he will require significant backing to rebuild the squad.

The BBC analyst stated that United are ‘in serious need’ of a new centre-forward, goalkeeper, and midfielder, and that ‘the whole team needs mending’.

Shearer: Amorim Should Stay at Old Trafford

Speaking on The Rest is Football, Shearer said United now have a squad that ‘is not very good’ at carrying out Amorim’s plans, but he still believes the Portuguese manager should stay at Old Trafford.

“They’ll have to stick with him. I mean, they made the decision, and he’s the manager. They’ll have to provide him two or three transfer windows, as well as, most importantly, a large sum of money to spend.

“They’re desperate for a center-forward, a goalkeeper, and legs in midfield.

“I mean, we go through the entire team.” It has to be fixed. It’s a massive task, therefore they must remain with him.

“But I do think, when I look at him, that he is expecting players to perform things they are incapable of doing, and they are battling in the system that he wants them to play in. “Clearly, they aren’t very good at it.”
