All Hell Breaks Free At The Estádio Da Luz When Barcelona Stuns Benfica

Estádio da Luz will always be remembered as the site of one of Barcelona’s worst-ever defeats and best-ever victories. If the 8-2 defeat to Hansi Flick’s Bayern Munich was the club’s lowest point, last night’s 5-4 victory against Benfica by the German coach’s Barcelona demonstrated how far they had come.

Make no mistake, in most recent seasons, Barcelona would have folded under pressure at Da Luz, given how the game played out, but this team is structured differently. Hansi Flick’s soldiers simply did not give up that night

With the score 4-2 in favor of Portugal, Barcelona was looking into the barrels. However, starting in the 78th minute, the Spanish club managed to score three goals, via Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Eric Garcia, to complete a spectacular comeback.

According to Mundo Deportivo, several Benfica players including Raphinha got into a fight in the tunnel following the game. The Barcelona captain was alleged to be in the core of the incident, and the players had to be separated by Portuguese police.

Obviously, both teams’ emotions would have been high. Benfica had just thrown away a game they believed they had won, and Barcelona had just pulled off an incredible comeback. Surely this is not easy to deal with?

Speaking to Moviestar’s mics, Raphinha described the situation in the tunnel.

He said:

“I’m a person who respects everyone, but when I was leaving the pitch there were people who insulted me. I returned the insults. I know I shouldn’t do it, but I returned the insults. In the end, we all got heated. Benfica’s side also got a bit heated.”

“They could have understood the situation, but they preferred to insult me. I’m a person who doesn’t take anything home, what they say to me, they’re going to hear it too. It was something that happened, we were all heated, but it’s normal in football, after the end of a match like this, that this happens.”

Raphinha demonstrated last night yet again why he is so clutch. The Brazilian rises to the pressure, demonstrating his standing as a truly exceptional player, and he was instrumental in Barcelona’s comeback last night.
