Alonso believes Verstappen is the best

Double Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso says Max Verstappen is the most talented driver on the grid. The Dutchman is sat fourth in the table after winning two races this season in Austria and Germany. He has been consistently praised for his ferocious approach to racing and his overtaking ability is widely regarded to be the best on the grid. However, some have labelled him too hot-headed at the moment and those streaks have led to poor results in the past. The 22-year-old, though, has seemed more mature this season as he looks to challenge for the title in 202. Despite his occasional self-destructive tendencies, Alonso believes Verstappen is the best driver on the grid because he is “exciting”, despite Lewis Hamilton proving the star man once again this season and racking up six world titles over the course of his glittering career. “There’s a reason why the drivers in the series are up there. It is not by chance, it is because they are the best,” he said. “I would say that right now it [the best] is Max Verstappen. He is a driver that I like to follow. This year I’ve watched the races on television and I like to see him because he is always in attack mode.”
